December was a busy month for us with prepping the garden for winter, wreath-making, and community dinners to light the dark wintry season.

Wreaths

BCC's tradition of handmade wreaths continued again this year, with the welcome addition this year of hot spiced cider. As Teri said in her thank you to the organizers, "They make it so easy for the least crafty and artistic of us to be able to make beautiful things out of nature."

Prepping the Garden

The Landscape Circle enlisted help from the community in early December to spread a big (BIG!) pile of wood chips in the garden. We didn't spread the whole pile, just a thin layer of chips; spreading a thin layer of wood chips will both protect our plants and help enrich the soil. We'll lay down another layer of chips in late winter/early spring.

Christmas Potluck

After resting from the garden chores, it was time to prep for the annual Christmas pot luck featuring warming foods, fancy desserts, and carol singing from our own little troupe of musicians and songsters.

Luminaria

After the potluck, a small yet intrepid group of us braved the cold night air to walk around Old West Durham so we could see the neighborhood luminaria displays. BCC joined in with a row of luminaria under the front window.

Christmas Brunch

For those of us who did not travel on Christmas day, we set up a Christmas brunch that included friends and family members.
